Who doesn’t love a square (or three!) of crumbly, sweet fudge? For me, it’s so reminiscent of childhood summer holidays spent in Dorset, procrastinating over which flavour to choose from the counter in the sweet shop, coins in hand. Anyway, I digress! This little packet of lusciousness can be found in Lidl, at the price of £1.29 for 150g. The ingredients list is remarkably concise and contains no palm oil.
I was expecting this fudge to be incredibly sweet and was proved right; although not at all sickly, one or two small squares is completely satisfying and does not leave one craving more. The fudge is perfectly cut into little squares and has the most perfect, crumbly texture when eaten. The maple syrup floods the mouth with a gorgeous, smokey caramel flavour, without overpowering the taste of the fudge. I will probably graze on a couple of squares with black coffee (no surprise there!) but I can imagine it working marvellously with vanilla ice cream or crumbled over stewed apples.
Overall, I think this fudge is amazing quality for the price and would make a perfect little gift for anyone in your life with a sweet tooth to match my own!
